Standing Hamstring Stretch for a Strong Back. Euclid Chiropractic

Here is the the video-

Usually a weak, painful back can be correlated with tight hamstrings (located behind your upper legs).  This exercise with help relax your hamstrings BEFORE starting back strength exercises.

Recovering from poor posture and/or back pain requires a game plan.  If you have pain during this stretch, before you start exercising please get checked by your local chiropractor to avoid causing an injury during any exercise.

Here are the specific steps for each position.

Position 1: On the wall.

    1. Move your feet 3 inches off the wall, keep your your hips, shoulders, head against the wall and hold a broomstick in front of you.  To set the curve in your back, place your fist behind your lower back. 

    2. Lower the broomstick down your legs only to where your lower back does not move. 

    3.  Stop.  Then slower return to the starting position, maintaining your lower back position.

If this feels comfortable, then go to position 2.

Position 2: Off the wall.

  1. Stand up straight, moving your weight to your heels.

  2. Slide the broomstick down your legs, keeping your lower back from moving (important).

  3. Stop where your hamstrings tighten, then return to the starting position without moving your lower back.

Continue this hamstring stretch until they feel relaxed as you move the broomstick down your legs.  Then you are ready to start these standing low back strength exercises (in the related articles below) for a strong back.

Car Accident 100% Recovery- Camille’s story

Camille’s occupation was difficult before the accident.  Heavy lifting was part of daily occupation as she continued to work.

After the accident the pain became almost unbearable pain during all physical movement.  Difficulty walking, sleeping, and constant headaches.  Medications were not working.

Stop Chronic Pain Relief through Medications: Your Alternative

Medication misuse is a growing, widespread plague throughout the United States.  The blame has been put on the patient in the past, and now the national medical association is seeing their fault.  In this paper, the AAFP calls for  “addressing the dual public health crises of under treated pain and opioid (pain medication) misuse/abuse at both the national and grassroots levels.”  This a great paper to understand how pain medication prescriptions have gotten out of control.

So what have patients under medical pain management care done in the past? Taken the drugs over and over again, being told their was no other treatment available.  In the meantime, a person’s quality of life deteriorates waiting for their next pill.

Janis’ story is an exception.  “By the grace of God,” Janis says she called our office looking for hope.  She had seen other chiropractors as well as other non-drug therapies, but had not help.

When she arrived, I honestly say she was a mess.  Emotionally anxious, physically in pain and psychologically in distress.

After taking and analyzing Janis’ x-rays, it was apparent her back surgeries did not include screws and rods put in the spine that would permanently stop motion.  Because we, Dr. Weaver and myself, could cause spine motion there was room to relieve Janis’ back pain, and improve her health.

In the video, Janis tells how she went through the withdrawals and her treatment perfectly, so I will not repeat it here.

Yes, after 8 weeks Janis’s physical and psychological health was better, but it was a rough road.

Chiropractic, and other alternative therapies to medications, are NOT made available to patients verbally by their doctor.  Specifically, when the medications are not helping.  Some advocates say, “this is a form of malpractice.”  You can form your own opinion.

Solution if you are taking medication and not seeing health improvement? Find alternative treatments ON YOUR OWN.  Don’t let your quality of life suffer as you procrastinate.

How Oscar’s X-ray Analysis helped his Neck Pain/Sport Injury Recovery

Oscar’s x-ray analysis helps explained how Chiropractic was successful in his recovery and preventing future re-injuries as he continues to play soccer.  Oscar has played soccer since 4 years old and is how 17.  He plays his high school team and a club team.   If you have watched boys soccer after the age of 10-12, it becomes very physical.  This can lead to injuries needing surgery.  Soccer is the #2 number of concussions per year.

Oscar tells his story in this post/video. 

Oscar had been suffering neck pain for months.  His father brought him in for an exam and understood the use of x-rays to analyze his injury.  Here is Oscar’s first neck x-ray:

And here is a normal neck x-ray:

In comparison, Oscar x-ray is straight instead of normally curved.  The straightening can stop normal spinal motion that will cause the spinal discs between the bones to thin.  Normal spinal motion keeps the pressure off the nerves, and allows the neck to feel healthy.  No motion can lead to degeneration of the disc and pinching of the nerves as in Oscar’s case.

Here is an image of how the disc can pinch a nerve to cause pain and other conditions:

Oscar’s father was happy to understand how his son can recover without drugs and continue to play soccer.  Oscar had eight weeks of treatment that included chiropractic adjustments, stretching and strengthening exercises.  Beyond feeling 100%, here is Oscar’s new neck x-ray:

Now the spine is start having a normal curve, by having the Forward Head Posture reduce from 41mm to 28mm.  This allows normal motion of the neck allowing reduced nerve pain and less chance of re-injury.

Sport injuries can feel better quickly.  When injuries continue to reoccur or do not leave, getting an x-ray analysis like Oscar can allow full recovery through proper treatment.  Then your spine and health can get to 100% again.
